Wolf Hunt Banner
"No matter how brilliant your mind or strategy, if you’re playing a solo game, you’ll always lose out to a team."

In 2024 the Wolf Hunt grew to become a two day event running across September 14th and 15th.

Still one of the only HEMA events in the UK focused on unit combat and tactics, Wolf Hunt this year had more than 80 people in attendance. The event spans open fields, a river, woodlands, bridges and a walled encampment area allowing for a multitude of war games and battlefield scenarios as well as encouraging emergent tactics. This year new variables were added in the form of a battering ram requiring multiple people to move and a catapult which could be seized and used to lay siege to the fort or provide area denial against choke points like bridges.

Although traditional HEMA duelling techniques remained applicable, things changed drastically when instead of facing one opponent in a salle people needed to deal with multiple combatants and were backed up against a river with the sun in their eyes. The mixture of weapons also opened up new tactics with well practiced shield walls presenting an imposing obstacle, weapons with longer reach like spears and pole arms helping to counter them with their increased measure – and archers coming into play to change the dynamic entirely.

Line fights, war bands, VIPs, territory games, capture the flag and more.

Through the days there was food available from both a catering truck and a ice cream van. In the evening people enjoyed marshmallows, music and merriment around a bonfire before eventually retiring to their tents or the on-site bunk house.
